Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

A series of flash games and interactives installed in the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.

Overview

I worked with Elbow Productions to create a series of interactive displays and games for the new Herbert Art & Gallery Museum in Coventry. This was a large scale project that took a few months to complete, my work was on three separate interactives.

The interactives were all connected to a central database so I had to make good use of AS2, PHP and MYSQL to complete this project. At the time, I was new to PHP and MYSQL but learnt a lot on the job.

The gallery went on to win Best of the West and Best Exhibition at the Renaissance West Midlands Awards and was also shortlisted for the Museums & Heritage Awards for Excellence in 2008.

AV24 - You Decide

This interactive required the user to view a set of opinions from opposing sides of an argument then vote to make their choice. The users vote is then stored on the database and the total votes are shown on the screen.

AV24 - Flash Point

This interactive was the most challenging, it is a real time two player game. The players must deal with conflict resolution to prevent a war and attempt to reach a peaceful solution to the dispute. The game takes the players through the conflict resolution process with the help of an in-game mediator.

The game makes heavy use of audio and high quality animation to appeal to the user. The game is also used in school workshops to teach students about conflict resolution.

AV25 - Tile Game

This interactive was a simple tile swapping game. The images and data were pulled from the database, it is all dynamic so the client has the ability to change the images and number of tiles pieces and other game variables if they wish.
